Finally, back in my own kitchen! No offense to the kitchens I visited this past weekend – but my belly just likes what she likes and thats that! Before we left for the weekend, my box of Kodiak Cakes goodies arrived. One of them being the Big Bear Brownies made with whole wheat. I had read online that these were phenomenally good. So we were excited to try them!
Can’t beat the ingredients list here!
While I was doing that, someone else was busy playing photographer again (his work is at the bottom of the post).
Mmmm, these were really good. So moist and chocolaty.
Dylan practiced his scissor skills while I was in the kitchen. These scissors are no good though. I can’t explain why they suck, but we’re getting different ones! He definitely need to practice though. He really is no good at it! R
e-filled my jars today! Not just for canning, people! I love using these jars for storing my various seeds and oats and flours and things.
Look what we had! A pomegranate!
Seriously pretty, aren’t they? They are called Arils.
Dylan declared them “the best snack EVER!” I have to agree, they are GOOD.
Dinner last night was Baked Pasta with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cheese from Cooking Light. Yes, I am a fan of Cooking Light. Is it obvious? It was good! We should have had the neighbors over for dinner though because it made A LOT.
And then after dinner it was time for my most favorite task of the year – pumpkin carving. I don’t know why I’m always the pumpkin carver! Its no fair! Anyway, we brought their pumpkins inside and decided to weigh them to see just how big Dylan’s pumpkin really was. 61 pounds!
Avery soaked up attention from her Daddy instead of assisting with the carving. Probably better that way.
He picked a face from a carving booklet, but since his pumpkin was so big, I had to freehand it. It doesn’t look TOO far off from what it should have looked like – but it still isn’t anything too complicated. And that’s the way I LIKE IT.
I just love the night flash. They had no idea what was going on cuz the lights were off.
Avery went to bed and we got to work on her pumpkin. Oh well – she’ll see it happen next year! We had to shave off a bit of the bottom on hers so it wouldn’t tip over. They definitely picked some winners this year! What’s this?! Daddy is helping with the pumpkin carving?! I nearly fell over! He is even doing the cleaning out the pumpkin part! Seriously – WHAT have I done to deserve such royal treatment!?! He even carved it! This one is a bit more fun. Eric is waaaaaay more skilled in carving than I am. I think we’ve found a new resident carver! Reminded me of when my Dad would carve our pumpkins as kids. I always think of how he made it looks SO easy when he carved them. Especially now as I struggle to saw thru the darn things. Apparently it’s men’s work. And here are Dylan’s pictures from his mini photoshoot. Damn, he’s good.
Well, my people are waking up for the day now. I don’t know how I got so lucky that they slept in! Or, should I say – how YOU got so lucky that they slept in! If they hadn’t – there wouldn’t be TWO posts this morning! So enjoy it, people!
